Astigmatism

An Astigmatism causes vision to be blurred or distorted at all distances. Wrongly referred to as a “stigmatism”, astigmatism is a refractive error which means it’s problem stems from how the eye focuses on light.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic Retinopathy is a diabetes complication that causes blood vessels in the retina to change. There are two types of diabetic retinopathy: Nonproliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR). At first, patients typically experience no symptoms, but will progressively cause vision loss.

Eye Allergies

Eye allergies are from the immune system reacting to foreign substances referred to as allergens. Symptoms may be seasonal, but many people experience the symptoms during the fall or spring. Common triggers include pollen, pet dander, perfume scents, cigarette smoke, mold, and diesel exhaust.

Floaters

Eye floaters are a very common eye condition. Many people describe floaters as cobwebs or specks that float in and out of their vision. While normal, a sudden increase in floaters may be a sign of more serious conditions such as a retinal tear or detachment.

 Hyperopia (Farsightedness)

Hyperopia or farsightedness is a vision condition in which objects at a close distance are not seen clearly. This may cause daily problems such as reading, writing, working on a computer, or even driving. Common treatments include eyeglasses, contact lenses, and eye surgery such as LASIK.

Macular Degeneration

Macular Degeneration commonly affects individuals over the age of 60. Due to aging, the center of the retina deteriorates, which causes a loss of central vision. While genetics play a role a role in susceptibility, other factors include smoking, light colored eyes, and farsightedness.

Myopia (Nearsightedness)

Myopia or nearsightedness is a vision condition in which individuals struggle seeing objects at a far distance. While usually treated with eyeglasses or contact lenses, there are several surgical options to treat Myopia such as LASIK.

Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)

Pink eye or conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the outer membrane of the eyeball and inner eyelid. Pink eye is very common and usually does not result in any long term damage to an individuals vision.

Presbyopia

Presbyopia is the gradual loss of the eyes’ ability to focus on nearby objects. Individuals usually begin experiencing this loss around their mid-40s. Treatments usually include eyeglasses or laser vision correction.

Retinal Tear / Detachment

A retinal tear is when part of the retina pulls away from the supporting tissue. Retinal tears usually leave no damaging results, but in more serious cases can lead to retinal detachment. Retinal detachment is a medical emergency which can lead to permanent loss of vision.
